“My images are rooted in American history. I imagine what used to be: who lived and worked here, what was, as well as what is. I explore how the natural landscape contends with the human-made in a struggle for ascendancy. Small towns provide an endless supply of buildings that are portraits unto themselves. The natural and the historic landscape reveals stories, both real and imagined. I photograph a past history as well as a present experience.

I wander off highways as much as possible, driving through small towns and the rural landscape in search of my images. I have an affinity for the “on-the-road” image makers of the past, looking for the vernacular culture of America. The history of the land fascinates me, the sections that are preserved and the places under constant change.”
